May 2006 update

If you've submitted and we haven't got back it's because your material was shit.

Only joking! We've had techinical issues with the email system which should be resolved shortly, so we will get back to you. Sorry for taking so long.

While we're about it, lets have no more novels or sit-coms. We'll look at anything but at the very least it's got to fit in theSpectacle. Also, no more 'samples' of material you've had under your bed for ten years: write something new for theSpectacle and send that.

50% of all submissions sign off with 'let me know if you want to see more.' You little teasers! You know we want to see more, but the emphasis is on you to send it to us, not on us to coax it out of you.

theSpectacle has an open submissions policy. We are particularly keen on the inventive, the absurd and especially the original.

If you want to submit something, we'll be happy to look at it.

You can submit anything you like, in any format - it doesn't have to be a newspaper spoof.

If we publish your piece you'll a get a credit, and a window for others to view your genius. But you'll get nish money, for the time being.

If you're thinking of sending something in here are a few pointers:

  • Be original, be sharp but don't worry too much about every single detail - a good joke will explain itself immediately.
  • Don't send stuff that's all ready on the internet.
  • Don't be too topical. If the jokes relies specifically on it being published on a particular date or in a particular issue it has less chance of getting through. Think about the zeitgeist instead man.
  • Do send your original photos if you think they enhance your piece.
  • Do send just about anything you can think of that makes you laugh and will make us laugh too: cartoons, photoshop-jobs, clever graphics, even animations. We'll be podcasting soon as well. The possibilities are endless.
  • Put 'Submission' in the subject header, makes things a little easier.

Good luck!
